I consider my role as providing clear guidance in the context of tumultuous, and otherwise uncertain times in people’s lives.  I am here to facilitate a negotiated settlement where possible, with litigation being embarked upon as a last resort.  But if that avenue is necessary, the case will be presented in the most proficient and professional light.”

Lachlan has successfully represented clients involved in all aspects of Family Law, including property settlements, separation and divorce, maintenance, de facto relationships, financial agreements (including pre-nuptial, cohabitation and separation agreements), parentage (paternity) disputes, acrimonious parenting matters, relocation, and child support.  He has a focus on achieving commercially sound results for his clients in a way that is both economical and cost-effective.

Lachlan has experience in complex property matters including those involving third parties, sham transactions, overseas assets, multiple expert witnesses and valuation disputes, corporate entities, trusts, cross collateralisation, liquidation, and taxation issues.

Where litigation is necessary, Lachlan has extensive experience preparing for and presenting cases to the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia.  He enjoys working with clients to draft comprehensive affidavit and court material which provides the foundation for a successful outcome.  He works with and instructs independent experts and counsel, and strongly advocates before the Judge to ensure each client’s case is presented at its highest.

Lachlan holds a Bachelor of Arts Bachelor and Bachelor of Laws (Hons), Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice, and a Masters of Applied Family Law (with Distinction).  He was admitted as a Lawyer to the Supreme Court of NSW and as a Solicitor to the High Court of Australia in May 2014.

Lachlan considers his role is to facilitate a negotiated settlement where possible.  He advises on each case with objectivity and candour; breaking down complex factual scenarios to convey clear, precise advice that is tailored to the nuances of each matter.  Lachlan presents his clients with their options along the way, advising on the advantages and disadvantages of each, allowing them to make an informed decision as to how to move forward.  Lachlan is eager to analyse possible approaches and formulate innovative solutions to novel issues as they arise.

When married couples separate, there is only one ground for the grant of a Divorce Order, and that is the irretrievable breakdown of the marriage. This is established by the parties being separated for a minimum of 12 months. In some circumstances, parties can be living under the same roof and still be able to establish this ground.
