“Years of experience has taught me that every case is unique so I tailor my service to my client’s needs and objectives. I am dedicated to resolving matters as amicably as possible but offer a robust approach to court litigation when required.”

Michael is not in the business of making sales. He recognises that Family Law is an area where people can, sometimes, lose perspective of what they are truly seeking. He considers he has an important role to ensure his clients understand all the benefits and risks involved in any Family Law matter so they can consider their options regarding how to proceed in the future from a realistic and informed perspective. He strives to understand the particular circumstances of each client and is always interested in engaging in creative problem solving when called for to help resolve a matter.

Michael has successfully represented clients in a range of Family Law matters including complex property settlements, separation and divorce, de facto relationships, high conflict parenting disputes, relocation matters and child support. He is committed to settling disputes in the most constructive, non-confrontational and cost-effective manner possible and is skilled in negotiation and has represented countless clients in mediation. He believes the best settlements are achieved as a result of grounded preparation with his clients to allow him to negotiate from a position of strength and common sense.

In instances where court proceedings are inevitable, Michael is a highly skilled litigator and has extensive experience appearing before the Family Court and the Federal Circuit Court, and will ably guide his clients through that often very stressful process. Michael knows that thorough preparation of cases is what leads to successful outcomes. Where required he works effectively with forensic accountants and other expert witnesses to present to the court a logical proposed outcome that has been carefully worked towards together with his clients.

Michael has previously operated a legal practice in partnership for 9 years and his role prior to joining Edwards Family Lawyers was as a senior family lawyer in a national firm where he was responsible for supervising and mentoring junior family lawyers across New South Wales and Victoria.
